PETROLEUM COKE
Petroleum coke, also known as petcoke, is a type of coal obtained through the carbonisation of the fractions with high boiling points produced during the distillation of oil. This material is often used in place of traditional coke or in the production of electrodes for batteries.
Petcoke comes in various forms, including needle coke, honeycomb coke, sponge coke and shot coke. Based on the quantity of sulphur it contains (which can vary from 0.5% to 8.0%), the market also divides petcoke into three main categories: low sulphur, medium sulphur and high sulphur. These categories of petcoke can then be classified as either anode grade or fuel grade.
Over 75% of the petcoke produced is considered fuel grade and has a 20% higher calorific value than coal. Since its combustion generates volatile waste products, it has to be used in conjunction with treatment plants and filters. The cement industry is the main consumer of fuel-grade petcoke, accounting for over 60% of global annual production.
Bulk Trading ships petcoke globally and has built up strong relationships with the leading producers of this fuel all over the world.
